Turn Spring Cleaning Into Spring Savings

Spring cleaning isn’t just a time to get rid of all the dust, dirt and grime that’s been accumulating all winter; it’s the perfect time to replace many of your old household items. While cleaning your home, take a hard look at what you have and decide what you should replace within the next year. If it’s on sale during the spring, go ahead and replace it now to get the best deals and save yourself money, even if you don’t need it until later in the year.

Cookware: That mismatched set of pots and pans with burned bottoms and peeling non-stick coating needs to go, and the good news is that spring is the perfect time to buy a new set. It’s getting close to wedding season, so many kitchen essentials are on sale. You can find great deals on matching cookware.

Refrigerator: If, in the process of cleaning out your fridge and vacuuming the coils, you realize that it’s getting old and feeble, replace it rather than relying on it for another year. Jump on the opportunity now, because new models come out early in the summer, which means stores are trying to get rid of last year’s inventory as the spring goes on.

Holiday decor: The worst time to buy holiday decorations is a few weeks before the holiday, so take stock of what you have while you’re cleaning out the garage, basement and attic. For example, if you know you need to replace your artificial Christmas tree before next Christmas, there’s no cheaper time to buy one than in the spring.

Camping & outdoor gear: Because camping season isn’t in full swing yet, you’ll find better deals on the gear now than you will in a few months when everybody wants it. Look at what you have and take advantage of the opportunity to get a new tent, sleeping bags, hiking boots and anything else you may need. Plus, remember that using a camping trip as your family vacation later in the summer will be much less expensive than staying at a hotel somewhere!

Vacuum cleaner: You may think that these would be more expensive because more people use them for spring cleaning than at any other time of the year, but stores actually often discount their vacuum cleaners in the spring. They’re a great way to get people in the doors and sell them on all sorts of other cleaning supplies they don’t really need. If yours is on its last leg, go ahead and replace it.

Although spring cleaning is a huge investment of your time and energy, it will pay off. Not only will you have a clean and beautiful home going into the warmer months, you can identify what you need to replace and find some stellar deals. Get your whole family involved with your cleaning checklists, and make a shopping list as you go so you know exactly what to buy this month.
